How attractive it can be when presented with the opportunity to be on a daily TV show for a week with the possibility of £1000 reward!
Already the mind goes to appearance, and what I could buy for this amount of money.
The opportunity to appear on a TV programme, Come Dine with Me, presented itself a few weeks ago and after some trepidation and hesitation, I decided to go for the experience.
I have watched myself go to the hairdresser, paint my toe-nails, preen my garden and get new face creams! All in the knowledge that I most probably will be “stitched up” quite badly by the producers of the show, however nice and friendly they seem..
What drives this ?
The desire to share with the world the wonders of yoga and vegetarian cookery or the desire to be on TV again after so long, something that I used to do all the time, perform and be watched, making me feel special and in the limelight, different, above the rest….
This is becoming a very special lesson in detachment, from ego, from the big ME that wants to somehow be different and better and larger than the rest – to the knowing that it is all Maya, it is all the play of life, being lifted up before the fall, being hailed and praised before the criticism – and still be able to laugh at it all and ride this wave.. Indian born Kipling comes to mind:
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
So, watch out – the veggie yogi is about to hit your screens – twisted into what format, who knows?? I hope I have the detachment to be able to laugh at the whole process….
“skrattar bäst som skrattar sist” + another Swedish proverb for you to look up on Google translate..
